Billy The Kid

Even my wife's Swiss mother, father and sister, on their New Mexico Road Trip ...had heard the stories of the West's most famous outlaw, Billy The Kid!

Little known fact: Billy The Kid was born in Brooklyn, NY!

Not until his late teens did he wind up in New Mexico ..got into trouble stealing stuff. This was the first time he escaped from jail and the state to run off to Arizona.

Returning to NM in 1877, he had got 'his-self' a reputation as a sassy, gun slinging horse thief who had already shot a blacksmith. The Kid rarely ever drank and didn't smoke, but loved gambling. He loved the ladies and especially the Mexican  senoritas ..and learned to speak Spanish. He had a quick Irish temper..but loved to laugh and could be genuinely quite fun.

Also, Billy The Kid never killed dozens of people. Only 4 really..and of those, 2 were jailhouse guards at the famous Lincoln County Jail breakout. After the Lincoln County Wars..this is what really got him into hot water and got a major price on his head..by Gov Wallace. He always felt that he was on the right side of justice and would be saved from the gallows.

Pat Garrett was dispatched and caught up to Billy at a ranch at Fort Sumner and shot him into fame.
