Copper Canyon-Abiquiu
Many scenes from many movies have been set in Copper Canyon!
Some from City Slickers and many from the cable series, Into The West! Fact our neighbor was the Wrangler and had several appearances in that movie. Copper Canyon, or Arroyo del Cobre, as it’s listed on most maps ..is a box canyon about 10 miles deep behind “Plaza Blanca” and Sierra Negra in Abiquiu.
The Red Rock is very picturesque, even Sedona-esque: 
...and the White Rock formations are amazing. This formation, below..was a big scene in “Into The West”, Sandstone and Lime cliffs and formations that sometimes look like government buildings! These formations were carved by water (this was under sea at one time) and wind:
Although, it was January, it was mild and very clear ..blue skies: 
The snow stark against the Red Rock:
The Copper colors stand out best:
And the formations incredible:
The whole hike is advanced, and you’d need to bring lots of water! There are Coyote, Elk, Rattlers ..both Prairie and Diamondback, some Black Bear, Bobcat, Mountain Lion..a major population of Crow and Raven …with some Red Tailed Hawk and Falcons! Great Camping..but again..be sure to bring enough H20.
