Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks
Just by the Cochiti Pueblo and in the foothills of the Jemez Mountains just North of Albuquerque is Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument.

Literally..dozens of films have been shot here to one degree or another.

Here at
http://NewMexicoOutdoor.com ...we find it to be a much in demand hike for all..however ...it's more difficult to do the full 5 1/2 mile loop than most imagine.

Just 1/4 mile from Trailhead..are the Slot Canyons Gabriela and I at the entrance to the Slots just out of site is the sign warning of "Serpents". Indeed ..this would be the kind of place one would constantly be pulling themselves along by grabbing boulders without checking for "Serpents".:

The site is closed more often by rain than anything else; these slots a Flash Flood Magnet!

The Slots themselves run about 3/4 mi.

The formations are awesome:

Then there is the climb to the overlook..some 800 feet. While not technical..it's rocky and sometimes very steep. Gabriela and I notice people who are out of shape ..are huffing and puffing and we see lots turn back. BUT..once atop..the views of the Sandias to the South and the Jemez Mountains are spectacular!

Once down from the overlook..the loop trail winds by the cave:

And back down once again to the trailhead by some of the most spectacular Tent Rocks:

Used to be that you'd put $5 in a steel pole for "The Tribe"..but now it's administered by the NPS ..and there's a guy with a suit collecting $$at a gate out front.
